youth spent as a deckhand on the convoy

Who: Jetshard and you!
What: evening shift at the medbay, weird troll food, and early morning hikes.
When: First week of April
Where: medbay, kitchen, and cliff tops
Warnings: Nothing expected

A - All week, medbay, late evening
[Each night, Jetshard can be found in the medbay for several hours, starting around seven and staying at least until midnight. It's the most reliable part of her schedule; if you're looking to actually track her down on purpose, this is the most predictable time and place. Also, if you need medical help. That'd be a good reason to show up here, too. She spends most of the time puttering around the supplies, or in a corner with a book in hand, or casually talking with Strange. But if someone else comes in, she's alert, and interested.]

B - April 4, kitchen, after midnight
[A bit after midnight. You know, lunch time.

Jetshard is fully aware that she's not going to be winning any prizes for her grubloaf - especially when the recipe is half substitutions and half trying to recreate a real grubloaf recipe from memory - but on the other grapsing appendage she's pretty sure she's the only one who's actually using the grubmeal in any significant way. And even if it's not great grubloaf it's at least not on the level of "culinary disaster" that seems to come out of the station's kitchens on a distressingly regular basis.

On the other hand, she didn't really account for the amount of time it would take to bake, so while the oven fills the kitchen with a scent that's really more earthy than savory and a little tangy, and the mixing bowl and cutting board dry in the rack next to the sink, Jetshard is leaning against the counter and absently stirring a cup of Alternian Cup Noodle with a fork. When someone else enters, she waves, with the hand still holding the fork.]

Let me know if I'm in your way? I'm just waiting for something to come out of the calefaction locker.

C - April 8, clifftop near the lighthouse, early morning
[Honestly, if anyone around here was familiar with the idiosyncracities of different troll colors, Jetshard's willingly being out here after sunrise would probably be a pretty good indication of her being jade. Not terribly long after sunrise, of course - it's only about seven - and in the rain, but still. Out for a hike in the morning, and making no particular effort to avoid the occasional breaks of sun.

In fact, she pauses a moment near the cliff overlooking Glitterstone Beach as a beam of sunlight breaks over the shore, catching the scale gravel of the beach.]

Mothers, that's lovely.

April 8, clifftop

Isn't it?

[Prompto's wedged himself somewhere comfortable to take pictures, dressed for some exploration himself. He waves.]

Hi, Jetshard. You're up late.
photoshooter: (TRIPOD 📷 Say "fuzzy pickles!")

It's kind of hard in this weather, I think I'm gonna go down to the caves instead. Anyway, seven isn't that early for most humans.

>[Judging you, line of Lucis. He points at the glittering beach below them.]

I kind of like going for a run while the sun's coming up for exactly this reason. That, right there.

[Click goes his camera. That's gonna be one of the keepers.]
photoshooter: (GUILT 📷 Sorry about the car)

[personal profile] photoshooter 2018-04-13 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, yeah, no, that'd be amazingly bad. I tried to stop hanging out on cliffs in the dark last time a giant snake lady pulled me over the edge into her creepy daemon lair.

[And that's such a mundane occurrence in comparison to all that happened after that, it's not even worth shuddering for. Just sighing.]
photoshooter: (DAWNING 📷 Oh...)

[personal profile] photoshooter 2018-04-13 07:21 am (UTC)(link)
Uh, that too. It was kinda slippery in there in some places. Rainstorms.

also clifftop, these XVs move in packs

[It's morning! Specifically, it's not long after dawn, which means that Izunia is outside, you know, as usual. The rain isn't that bad, and so he's out working his blades again. This time, it's the rapier with a bright spark of lightning magic bound up into it, tendrils of electricity flashing between the raindrops as he swings it.

And then he's very suddenly - though not as suddenly as with a warp - most of the way across the sandy sparring circle, and pauses there with a thoughtful hum.]

Not quite as fast...
Morning, Jetshard. Special occasion?

[personal profile] founderinglight 2018-04-12 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
[Distractions just make the experience more authentic, though.]

Uncommon to see you up and about after dawn.

[Don't mind him lightly tossing the still sparking rapier.]

[He just nods.]

I'd assume so, given that we're past the equinox, now. Assuming the climate distribution is anything like Eos, we're nowhere near the equator.

Hmm. I hadn't either. Our year is 365 days, with an extra every fourth.

["Year" and "solar sweep" seem to be roughly synonymous.]
founderinglight: ([late with spacebucks])

[personal profile] founderinglight 2018-04-13 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
Ours was reasonably standardized in terms of days in the year by the time I was born, but heavens forbis you ask me what year it is. For a long time, each country kept its own count - I think they finally settled on a unified dating system some seven and a half centuries ago? Something like that, ask - no, nevermind, they're both fairly bad at history.

[Eos, also a bit of a mess, and so is the line of Lucis Caelum (and their adopted human chocobo).]

[personal profile] founderinglight 2018-04-13 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
Ours is solar with... Well, roughly lunar subdivisions. Most months are a few days longer than the moon cycle, except for... Well, idiosyncrasies, specifically the one called February.
founderinglight: ([sketchyplaceholder])

[personal profile] founderinglight 2018-04-13 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Just one, yes. Twenty-eight days or so for a full cycle - I think it's actually slightly longer than that, but I can't remember exactly.
founderinglight: ([sketchyplaceholder])

[personal profile] founderinglight 2018-04-14 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
Well, we haven't even got space travel, so the first one's out of the question. I'm surprised our day lengths are so similar, honestly.
founderinglight: ([late with spacebucks])

[personal profile] founderinglight 2018-04-15 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
If I believed in a divine creator, I'd think they were getting lazy.

[This is too meta, 'zunia.]
founderinglight: ([beep])

[personal profile] founderinglight 2018-04-15 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, no complaints here. Can you imagine how much of a pain it would be if you had, say, a 32 hour day? Or a 72 hour one?
founderinglight: ([hold])

[personal profile] founderinglight 2018-04-15 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Precisely, it'd be ridiculous. My sleep schedule may be utter anarchy, but at least I'm aware of when people are normally awake. Though I'm increasingly sure that some of us simply don't sleep at all...

april 4

[personal profile] nightcure 2018-04-13 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
[ He's been staying up pretty late, which... explains why he sleeps so late, too. Sometimes, a guy's just gotta snack. Anyway, he's got his phone in hand, and when he sees someone else is already here... ]

Oh, uh, hey.
nightcure: (mirrorcoated3)

[personal profile] nightcure 2018-04-13 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
[ Man, he should just stop being surprised people know him. ]

Yeah, that's me. You a friend of his?
nightcure: (bros on the road)

[personal profile] nightcure 2018-04-13 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
[ He looks pretty happy about that, actually. He's glad Prompto wasn't entirely alone. ]

Nice to meet you, Jetshard. [ He nods to the Cup Noodle. ] Can't believe they've got that here.
