By now, every character should have at least heard about it, given the network announcement. As was promised, there will be food set up in the common area, as well as fireworks and a dunking booth. See the designated toplevels for locations, descriptions, and more! ]

And that's thanks to yours. [Still, that doesn't stop her from going a bit pink herself. She brushes a stray lock of hair from her face, glancing off to the side.]

I'm not really... used to wearing this sort of stuff, you know? Outside of my school uniform, I didn't even wear skirts back home...

I never really dressed up before, either. I didn't really have the budget to spare for nice clothes back home, let alone any reason to wear something fancy. I guess I could've splurged on a yukata for seasonal festivals, but I mostly got around Tokyo by bicycle.

Yeah, bicycles and yukatas don't sound like they'd mix, haha...

[Though, now she's trying to imagine him in one... it just makes her blush a little more.

(She's going to valiantly attempt to not picture Akechi-san in one too.)

She fiddles with her necklace a bit more.]

It's not so bad, though. Maybe I'll give it a try more often...

It does feel nice. I don't appreciate being stared at by people who only know how I act on TV, but I kind of enjoy feeling like I look extra nice in a community where I've been myself.

I'm sure... It is a nice feeling.

[She chuckles quietly, though it's not... entirely cheerful.]

My mother would be shocked to find out I'm wearing a dress willingly...

...It can make a huge difference, whether you decide to do something or are pressured into it. When I was younger, people tried to force me to use my right hand because being left handed is seen as strange, and I resented it...even if learning to use it with at least passable dexterity would make things a lot easier.

[She looks a bit sheepish, scratching her cheek.]

... I can imagine. I'd have probably been pretty resistant to that sort of thing if I was left-handed...

Being resistant to wearing dresses and skirts isn't the same thing, but I'm sure it didn't help my mother's opinion that I may as well have been a lost cause as far as she was concerned.

Did it have more to do with the association between skirts and demure, 'proper' women?

[...It's evident from his tone that he has a bit of distaste for that idea of what a woman 'should' be like.]

[It's clear she's not especially fond of the idea herself.]

... Though, I'm sure if I'd been the perfect, demure little doll my mother would've wanted she still wouldn't have been satisfied.

That expectation is stupid, anyway. The people who encourage it aren't looking for partners, they're looking for housekeepers and nursemaids they don't have to pay.

Ugh. To hell with that.

[There's a bit of silence before she glances away.]

... I guess you can tell what's going to be part of my effigy burning later.

[He gives a nod.]

Honestly, I'd probably do the same thing with some of my foster parents, if I hadn't already gotten them arrested. It's just too bad it's difficult to symbolize the general idea of rigid and enforced expectations in an effigy.

Yeah... I'm mostly probably gonna write down stuff people have said to me along those lines. Maybe a few pages of them if I can think of enough.

That's not a bad idea. Burn away the ways we've been told there's something wrong with who we are...

Kind of freeing when you think about it that way, huh?

[That finally gets a smile out of her again.]

Maybe we can hit the effigy burning together later?

It is. And maybe good for some lingering insecurities, too.

[And somehow, the knowledge that she won't be alone makes her feel that much better about it.]
