DUNGEON LOG: KEYSTONE SHORE

The morning of the 9th, everyone will get a message sent to their communication devices -

Okay, guys! I think we have enough stabilizers to try and get the shoreline stable. If you want to help out, grab your supplies and come on up to the roof!

When characters arrive at the roof, they'll find Top - with a wheeling table full of many copies of the same odd-looking device - the two exploratory drones, and a ramp down off the roof to the ground. (The latter looks a little hastily constructed.)

"Okay," Top says, picking up one of the devices. "Here's the stabilizers. Stick them to walls and stuff - mostly out of the way places where they're not going to get knocked off - and then press the buttons along the side."

They demonstrate, unfolding the set of legs at one end of the device before showing the buttons to anyone who's close enough. "Go ahead and take a couple, especially if you've got one of those space-saving inventories going on, I know there's like four of you with those? Strange got some first aid kits together, too, if you want."

Sure enough, another table nearby has the med kits... As well as traditional paper bag lunches, courtesy of Bottom. Don't question it too much.

"We'll be staying back here to keep track of the stabilization progress and work the drones," Top says, "but don't hesitate to call if you get in trouble! We'll send one of these guys down to get you an evac if you need it."

And with that, you're free to go down the ramp... Or to make for the beach however else you might choose to go.

[He retracts his hand as Goro's wings recoil.]

Aha, sorry! They just looked so soft...

[Not that he'd really be able to feel them through his gloves, mind.]

When you said you could fly, I didn't expect you'd have wings.

I don't mind if you want to touch the tops of the wings, they're much less delicate.

They're not actually necessary for my flight, they're more a symbol of status than truly functional...but I like having them out when I'm in the air. It's quite an impressive image, don't you agree?

[To make his point, he spreads them out to their full span...a good 12' from wingtip to wingtip, with the longest vertical feathers coming partway down his leg.]

Can I, really?!

[Without even waiting for confirmation, he delicately touches the top of his wings.

He gives a firm nod of agreement on their impressiveness, looking them over from tip to tip, taking in their vast size.]

I can see why you don't have them out around the station...

[The feathers are shorter here, but no less silky. The wings also seem to be faintly reflecting the maroon light filtered through the air of the Fissure...]

They're a little inconvenient indoors, yes. I'm very glad I can make them disappear.

[Astolfo thinks they're beautiful, and his expression makes no attempt to hide this.]

A shame...but we'll just have to find more opportunities for you to get them out, then.

Once we have this Fissure clear, there will be a lot more free space for me to fly in.

[With no more ado, he sweeps Astolfo into a princess carry and kicks off the cliff, spreading his wings wide as they fly out over the Fingers. His wings stay still even as they curve right, soaring toward the Bloodsands Beach.]

[The princess carry gets an reaction of bemusement, but when they're in the air, the look on Astolfo's face radiates joy. Flying is something he's used to, but it'll never stop being fun for him. Being able to experience it in a different way sets his heart racing in excitement.

As they make their approach, Astolfo's eyes dart around the horizon and the ground, not sure where to focus his gaze but not wanting to miss anything at the same time.]

Goro, are you getting this view?

[He knows it's not the best carry for Astolfo getting a good view, but it is the best for not dropping him or dangling him painfully.]

I can see it fine, yes. It's a lot more impressive than simply standing at the top of the cliff, isn't it?

[He nods.]

I bet being able to explore it all will be even more so.

I've been out here a couple times before, but they were fairly short trips. I've never really stayed long enough to explore before.

[The beach is coming into view as they round the cliff, giving them a bird's eye view of the waves crashing against the sand.]

[He does give his wings a good flap as his course straightens out, bringing the feathers whooshing past Astolfo's head and feet.]

It's an exciting opportunity. Especially since Up-san has managed to perfect the personal stabilizer.

Stabilizer? Why'd you need that?

I have some senses ordinary humans don't. One of them was quite aggravated by the way the Fissures affect reality, and spending any amount of time inside them was giving me a headache.

[riderofcharlemagne]

Ouch. [He winces slightly.] I had no idea you were in pain when we met.

I didn't want to bother people by bringing it up when there was likely nothing anyone could do. It's fine now, though. My past couple excursions into the Fissure have been to help perfect something that keeps the damage from reaching my senses.

It wouldn't have been a bother, you know? Ah, but I'm glad it's no longer an issue now.
