Who: Talon (
honededge) and OPEN!
What: Talon picks up a new hobby (feeshing) and tries his hand at cooking.
When: IC dates May 1st-5th
Where: Beach, Amnesta Forest (Lake), Kitchen (Higher number loop).
Warnings: Fish gutting/scaling?
i. Beach; Feeshing.
[It's fucking HOT.]
[None the less, Talon is out on the beach as the sun begins to set, wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans from the newcomer's clothing pile. You can find him sitting cross-legged in the sand with a fishing rod in hand and a tackle box by his side. He definitely doesn't regret choosing this hobby. It's quite peaceful, really. Besides, he knows he'll bring back food if he's successful, and that makes him feel like he's helping.]
[The only downside is that his mind has time to wander, out here in the silence. He stares out over the water, fixed on the horizon. The deep set frown is just a side effect of thinking too much, don't let it dissuade you from approaching him.]
ii. Lake; Feeshing.
[Same deal, really, just in the forest, perched on a rock on the shore, and closer to the late afternoon. The shade helps keep him cool, so he gets an earlier start here. It's hard to sneak up on him through the foliage. Without looking he calls out:]
Hey. Any idea what time it is?
iii. Kitchen; Cooking - cw: gutting/scaling/de-boning of fish
[It's true, he doesn't cook very often. And when he does, it's instant or pre-packaged crap. So fixing fresh fish is not something he's used to. But how hard can it be, to scale and pick the bones out of a fish?]
[Very hard. Extremely hard. There are shreds of fish everywhere and scales stuck to his bare arms. Help.]

Then she sees Talon fucking up this fish cleaning and... oh god. Please, please no. ]
...having trouble?
Re: kitchen
Never touched a fish in my life. Can you tell?
[The last part is said bitterly as he picks a few scales off his hand and flicks them into the sink. Next time, he'll stick the fish he catches in the freezer and call it a goddamn day.]

[ She really didn't mean to be mean. ]
I'm hardly an expert myself, but...perhaps I could be of some assistance.

You want to take over or are you the "teach a man to fish" type?

[ She does vaguely remember how Ama used to do this. She'll just...take this knife, here. ]

So, you do a lot of cooking, huh?
no subject
[ This is at least true, she's horribly fucked up every recipe she's made so far that wasn't the shrimp, or that involved more than "cut up and artfully arrange food". ]
But I'm trying to improve.

[He leans back against the counter, watching her carefully.]
I'm complete garbage at cooking. Most of what I had back home was instant.

Although... once I'd set off with the other Champions, Amatai was good at working with whatever we'd manage to hunt or forage, if we couldn't procure it from the shops. One time we slew a crab the size of a small house.
[ There were seven of them, but it still took them days to work through all that crab. ]

[He tries to picture a crab that big. Maybe an awakened crab of some sort, but like. Damn.]
You were an adventurer of some sort back home, then?
no subject
It was too much to carry.
And... I suppose you could say that? Although it's only been the past few months of my life.

[Have an awkward chuckle, his specialty.]

[ So. Actual princess. ]
A glamorous lifestyle, to be sure, but... I was dying to escape her eye.

[Glamorous lifestyle? Can't relate.]
At least you made it out? Of home, I mean.

I hadn't much occasion to leave the capital before, but... it's been quite the year.

[His tone is amused, and a little bitter, but his smile is sympathetic.]

How goes the fish...uh...de-messing?
