[The good doctor is less absorbed by books and more focused on patients these days. She's put out the call for others to show up so that she can practice her new skill, as well as update Strange's charts. It makes her a little nervous, still. What if it doesn't work on someone? What if she discovers some anomaly she's not prepared for? What if nobody shows up anyway?]

[Angela puts those thoughts aside as she hears someone enter.]

Greetings. Here for a scan, or is something else troubling you?

You've died? Is death not permanent in your world?

Depends on where it happens? If a person dies on the Surface, they're a goner, the Sun's having none of that. And even in secret places where the sunlight doesn't reach, if you get extremely killed you're probably not coming back. Dismemberment, certain toxins, that sort of thing. That Elder Country disease where your soul catches fire.

[She's never seen a case of calorescence first-hand, and she's just as happy for that, honestly. The accounts she's read sound dreadful, and not in an entertaining way.]

But with most of the mundane sorts of death, no.

That is...very interesting, if a little disturbing. Where I come from, death is very permanent, no matter where it happens or how you die. Life is incredibly fragile on my world. Truthfully I cannot visualize a world where life is so resilient.

[Angela looks a little uncomfortable briefly, but buries it under the need to remain professional. She's dedicated a good portion of her career to making it harder to be killed, but mastery over life or death is...a complicated matter for her. Whether it's a line she wants to cross, whether it was a line she COULD cross.]

Well, as I said, it's not really supposed to be. Anywhere the Sun's light reaches, natural law works the way you'd expect it to. [Which had made the amount of sunlight here positively nervewracking for the first few days. She still flinches a little when it takes her by surprise.]

Did you live underground, then?

[She's assuming, since it's the only place the sun wouldn't be able to reach at all.]

Eight years in the Neath - no, closer to nine, now, really. The major entrance is near Naples.

Peculiar. I'm assuming "Neath" as in "Underneath"? I don't think such a place exists in my world.

[London has enough problems in the Overwatch world without also being stolen away by bats and subject to the whims of bitter stars.]

I'm finding more and more that not only are their other worlds, but they all have wildly different laws and ways of functioning.

[Sonja nods.] Things here are certainly much quieter than I'm used to.

I hope you aren't too bored, but I also hope that things stay quiet. It is the nature of a doctor to want things to remain peaceful.

[She offers a playful smile as she speaks.]

Though, if you are equipped to do so, I am sure there will be more fissures to explore in the future. And I am certain there will be plenty of trouble to get into within them.

[Sonja laughs.] Well, I really meant in a more literal sense, honestly - the same influences that make death chancy in the Neath mean that a truly astounding number of things talk plainly, and more if you know the right languages to listen in or you travel to the right reaches of the Unterzee. But it has been peaceful around here. That's nice.

You come from a very strange world, Miss. I'm afraid mine is much more plain, though I am sure you might find some of the things that I consider normal quite out of the ordinary, just as I find your "normal" to be anything but.

Oh, I'm quite aware that it's strange. I'm just not much good at downplaying the strange I've sought out anymore. [That, and it's good to have a healthy smokescreen of odd to distract from the potentially sinister or dangerous; plenty of Londoners have died a few times. Far fewer work directly with the Brass Embassy or the more esoteric interests of the Church, let alone both. If she's talking academic theosophy, she's not going into the finer details of matching soul to soulless where her infernal contacts might hear.]

You seek out the bizarre and unusual, then? In a scholarly capacity or as a hobby?

[theosophomoric]

[She lifts a hand and wobbles it in a gesture of ambiguity.] Scholarly, entrepreneurial, philanthropic. Depends which opportunities arise.

I see. I'm afraid I have my hands full enough with the mundane to go seeking oddities, but I can respect an opportunistic approach to life.
