[The good doctor is less absorbed by books and more focused on patients these days. She's put out the call for others to show up so that she can practice her new skill, as well as update Strange's charts. It makes her a little nervous, still. What if it doesn't work on someone? What if she discovers some anomaly she's not prepared for? What if nobody shows up anyway?]

[Angela puts those thoughts aside as she hears someone enter.]

Greetings. Here for a scan, or is something else troubling you?

[She looked around the medbay curiously. This may be the cleanest room she's seen in her life.]

Thank you for coming in! I hope I'm not inconveniencing you in any way. The scan should only take about five seconds and will read back your vital signs and any outstanding injuries. I only have to put my hand over your shoulder to do so.

If those conditions are acceptable, we can begin right away.

We've got nothing but spare time around here, don't we? I'm just kind of excited we actually have a doctor here. Two doctors, even! Even if one of them isn't human.

Yes, Jetshard is surprisingly knowledgeable about human biology! She has me at a disadvantage, I am completely blind to the physical makeup of trolls.

[Angela places a hand over Bai Lin's shoulder, hovering about an inch away, and takes a cleansing breath.]

You are, by far, the most pleased to see a doctor so far. Many of the station residents are very resistant to visiting the medbay.

I've been through settlements that didn't have a doctor and the people there did not do too great.

[She looked at Angela's hand curiously. Her last doctor had been able to paralyze people with pressure point blockage, and she had NO idea what Angela's capabilities were.]

So how does this work?

The simplified version is that I will send a small series of energy pulses through your body and it will "bounce" off of you and return information about your physical condition to me. You won't feel a thing, it's non-touch and completely painless.

It is simply the manifestation of one's will to understand and observe certain information. To remain impartial, it returns information piece by piece rather than as a whole. That way I won't look at the results as "you are fine" or "you are injured" - I will be able to make that judgement based on the knowledge of your heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature, etc.

[She can't help it, she has to laugh.]

Goodness, no! I dressed as a witch once for Halloween, but I am very mundane on the day to day. No, I am a surgeon and field medic, nothing more.

I come from a world without any magic at all, actually. I only started to learn about it when I arrived here. It seemed like a useful tool to aid in healing and protecting others in the field.

Oh...Alright, I guess just do your thing.

I'm Bai Lin, by the way. That sounds like something you'd probably need to know...

Ah, where are my manners. I should have gone through introductions first! My name is Angela, or Mercy, if you prefer. It's nice to meet you, Bai Lin.

[As she speaks, she puts her hand over Bai Lin's shoulder about an inch away. The scan takes just a few seconds, Bai Lin won't feel anything over than a bit of heat coming from Angela's palm.]

Your vitals are excellent. No outstanding wounds, all scar tissue is nicely healed. You've kept yourself in remarkable shape! May I ask what you did occupationally before you came to this world?

[She's assuming that's the cause of such excellent physical condition - surely a physically active profession, or at least exercising as a hobby.]

I'm a m-...er, I guess I'm just a wanderer these days. Before I came here I was helping a friend deal with gangsters in New Hong Kong.

An exciting, if dangerous, thing to do. This must be quite a change of pace for you, then.

[After all, the station is a peaceful place - no gangsters, anyhow. She extends the same question she's offered several others by now:]

Are you adjusting well?

It needed to be done.

[She didn't mention that part of the reason she was doing it was because a man had turned her down because he didn't want to be distracted until the town was cleaned up. Her own personal motivation didn't make the work any less valuable for the people she was helping.]

It's very peaceful here, though. It's...nice, I guess, but I can't help feeling like I'm slacking on the job and should be doing something.

Mmm. [Angela tilts her head back and forth a few times in thought.] Personally, I would say to simply take this down time as time to prepare for future fissure explorations and acquaint yourself with those around you. If you are balancing getting to know others and resting yourself, you are doing exactly what needs to be done right now.

Other than that, you could consider looking in the library for a topic that interests you and dedicating some time to studying it. Or, if you don't use magic, consider practicing some basic spells for use in the field.

That is how I have been keeping my own restlessness at bay, anyway.

I'll stay away from magic, honestly. Every sorcerer I've met has been either insane, a jerk, or both, and I'm not eager to join them. Maybe I'll poke through the library, though.

Well I certainly hope to be the first sane, kindly magic-user you run into in your travels.

[She smiles brightly. The thought of becoming familiar enough with magic to call herself a magic-user is kind of exciting. Imagine the possibilities, the advancements she could make in healing and protecting the wounded!]

[The thought of it somehow driving her insane or corrupting her never crosses her mind, mercifully.]

If all else fails, there is also a hot tub. Though I request you save that until after the heat dies down.

Oh god no. It's way too hot to use the hot tub right now. I'd die.

As I said, wait until after the heat dies down. If you like swimming, though, there's always the beach. There's truly no shortage of potential activities here, one simply has to look for something they enjoy.

Is there something in particular you think you should be doing, or want to be doing?

I would request that you stick to the shallows, but swimming could be an excellent form of exercise and might prepare you for future fissures. You never know where we'll have to go, after all.

Obviously I'm not just going to jump into the ocean. I wasn't even planning on doing it alone. A swimming teacher would make it a lot easier...

While I would gladly supervise for you, I am not much of a swimmer, myself. Perhaps put out a call for aid on the network - others might be interested in learning alongside you as well.
