Shameless IC permissions post plugging
Who: Mercy (
caduceusoncall) and OPEN!
What: Practice! Meet the doctor, if you haven't!
When: IC dates May 1st-3rd
Where: Medical Bay
Warnings: Medical talk may come up!
i. May 1st-3rd; practice makes perfect
[The good doctor is less absorbed by books and more focused on patients these days. She's put out the call for others to show up so that she can practice her new skill, as well as update Strange's charts. It makes her a little nervous, still. What if it doesn't work on someone? What if she discovers some anomaly she's not prepared for? What if nobody shows up anyway?]
[Angela puts those thoughts aside as she hears someone enter.]
Greetings. Here for a scan, or is something else troubling you?
[ooc: this is the ic post for mercy's scan permission post, so that we can have an interaction over the scan if you want! feel free to handwave the whole experience by just filling out the form, but if you'd like to talk to mercy or if something unusual would happen during the scan, feel free to respond here! please go here and fill out the form there! if anything abnormal would come up now that wouldn't come up normally, specify that in your reply to this post!]

Her cat is watching from her shoulder, but once they're in the medical bay proper he hops down and heads over to a chair before meowing. Maddie starts making her way over to him. ]
You said you needed magic scan practice. And magic is really interesting so I kind of wanted to come by and see how it was done. [ It's a blind joke. ]

[She knows you can't see it, but she's all smiles right now. First off, she likes you, Maddie. Second, you're the lucky first practice patient! Well, technically the second time she's used it, but the first time she's done it just for practice.]
[Angela nods to Zel in greeting as she closes the distance.]
All I need to do is hold my hand up to you - I have chosen the shoulder as the most generally comfortable area - and the scan will take just a few seconds. As long as that is alright with you, we can begin.

That sounds... really simple. No complicated rituals? Transformations?
Does it work through clothing? [ She kind of gestures at her shirt and the flannel being worn over it. ]
no subject
A-Ah, yes, it works fine over clothing. As for complicated rituals or transformations, no, I'm afraid not. Perhaps I will have more complex magic at my disposal one day, but a spell this simple doesn't tend to require much ceremony.
[She holds her hand up to Maddie's shoulder, hovering just an inch or so away, and takes a cleansing breath. It does require some focus to cast, but not so much that she can't make a little small talk.]
How have you been since we last spoke?
no subject
So it's like a... specific spell then. Not a general ability? Interesting. [ She almost mutters that to herself, but snaps back to attention when addressed specifically. ]
Been? Oh, uh, fine. Mostly trying to familiarize myself with the building and the, uh, annex? [ It strikes her like a millisecond later that she probably meant physical health not, how she was keeping herself busy. ] In good health too! I don't really get sick. And there's a lot less alligators around here for me to worry about.

[The scan is over after just a few seconds. The vitals look perfectly normal, but the scar tissue concerns her. There's just so much of it, and on someone so young, that it seems like there's part of the story she's missing. Still, it's far from her place to pry.]
I'm sure you have had enough people worrying about you exploring, so I won't harp on the matter. But do be careful on the viewing deck - there's no railing.
[The mention of alligators confuses her a bit before she remembers where Maddie's from and laughs.]
That's right, you are from Florida, aren't you? I am pleased to say I haven't found a single alligator since arriving, so you're probably safe. Do they really cook and eat alligators in the southern US? That seems like such a peculiar thing to do.

I'm from St. Augustine. More Spanish architecture than swamp, a lot of tourist traps, and at least sixteen streets named after Ponce de Leon, the explorer who tried to find the Fountain of Youth.
no subject
[She would know, it's her technology that swims through her bloodstream and keeps her young.]
St. Augustine sounds like an interesting place, though. Did you like it there?
1/2

St. Augustine is nice enough. Too many tourists, too many alligators, the humidity is terrible, and the heat is a lot worse than it is here right now, but other than all of that it's nice.

[Angela can tell she's said something wrong, but doesn't really know how to apologize without dwelling on something clearly uncomfortable. Instead, she returns the smile as sincerely as she can manage through the worry.]
I...see. And how about here? Do you like this place?
no subject
But at the same time, it feels like I don't have much purpose here. I don't have school, I don't have my part-time job. [ she doesn't have monsters to fight or ancient conspiracies to uncover. ] I'm kind of lost with nothing to work toward. It's like summer break except I don't even have a guardian to nag at me.
[ Her cat HARUMPHs at that declaration. What is he, chopped meat? Wow, Maddie. ]

[She pauses for a moment to think. It's a tough situation to be in, to be young and directionless and adrift and a victim of literal, actual universe displacement.]
Did you have any hobbies back home? I'm sure the androids would be more than willing to help you get the supplies necessary to pick one up here.
no subject
...And I collect novelty T-shirts. [ She points at her current werewolf shirt. Yeah, that thing. ] That's not much of a time sink, though.
no subject
As for an audience, I think you would be surprised.
[She winces at the t-shirt again. So she...sort of...s-she knows it's not a NORMAL t-shirt, at least.]
I am sure we can help you find a way to settle in more comfortably.

It would be nice to have something to work on, though. My podcast was about magic, and there's a lot of that around here, and a lot of different types of it. Audience aside, I'd have a lot of material to work with.
Maybe I'll ask about finding a mixing board. I'd probably need a program on the computer, too.
no subject
As I mentioned in text, I would be willing to transcribe some of the books in the library for you, if you'd like. That could potentially help you get started.
no subject
If I got the equipment for it, I could stick to interviews. There's certainly enough people here with experience in magic, and that's just going by those I've already talked to.
...I'd probably need a good microphone, too.
no subject
[Mercy was made to be troubled! It's her literal, actual job!!]
I encourage you to speak with the androids about finding or crafting the equipment you might need. Restlessness isn't good for your health. Besides, the station could use more forms of engagement and you deserve to have something interesting to do during your stay. It would be a win-win.

I already asked them to look for shirts and they ended up getting me like ten of them, so I'm not going to overload them with selfish requests.
no subject
[Angela flounders a bit, realizing that what she said was not very polite.]
That is not to say they are bad, of course! Simply that they are...unique.

[It's a good thing Maddie can't see the face Mercy pulls as she eyes the obscene shirt. She can't tell Maddie what it says. Her mouth will not physically form those words in that order. Absolutely barbaric.]
A-Anyway, you are in good health. You take good care of yourself. You and Zel are free to leave if you've had enough of my prying.
[You are also free to stay and chat, but she doesn't want to keep you if you don't want to stay.]
