DUNGEON LOG: AMESTA FOREST

Hello everyone!

Up and the others think that we have enough stabilizers ready for the next expedition! We're going to the forest to the south this time, but it shouldn't be too far for anyone to walk. If you're REALLY going to complain, you can talk to Top on the roof and catch a ride on one of the drones like before.

The scenery's really nice, but there's definitely some kind of magical effect going on in there - as far as we can tell, the day doesn't progress inside the forest. It's stuck a little while after sunset - probably when the Fissure first appeared? (°ヘ°)

Be careful out there! Don't be afraid to call for help if you need it and we'll send a drone your way! o(^▽^)o And Strange says no stupid stunts this time, got it? (;¬д¬)

You'll probably see a big tree on your way there, before you're under the cover of the forest! That's the Infinity Tree, it's a really big willow. Charm can probably tell you more about the mythology if you're interested. He's gonna meet you guys there at the end of the expedition, so try to work your way in that direction as you go!

(。・ω・。)ノ See you when you get back!

After Down's message, characters will find things set up much the way they were last time on the roof. Top is making last-minute adjustments to the drones, and there's tables with food and medical supplies set out - the latter a little sparse compared to last time, so hopefully you kept your first aid kits from before. The table of stabilizers, on the other hand, is much more full.

On your way, you might also see some of what the construction drones have been putting together so noisily these last few days - there's the metal shell of a building, similar to but smaller than the Station, to the immediate west, just off your path to the forest in the distance. Nothing much indicates its function as of yet, though there are significantly more windows.

To the southwest stretches the border of Amesta Forest - about a mile distant, though still easily within sight. As promised, the Infinity Tree sticks up from the far edge, easily visible for those who need a landmark either now or later in the dungeon. If you get lost, you can probably find your way up a tree somewhere to get a perspective on it, and which direction to head in.

The silver mist doesn't begin until some distance into the forest, the time of day gradually changing to the eternal twilight mentioned as you approach the boundary of the Fissure itself. There's no distinct border, just a slow shading towards late afternoon and then sunset while the mist increases around you.

And as the mist wraps around you, and exhaustion you might have felt from the walk out here starts to evaporate... You've well and truly arrived, now. Better keep your eyes open.

[Talon doesn't know Prompto very well, but to be perfectly honest he at least recognizes him and that's enough. But he certainly looks...different. Less like the goofy, cheerful man he met in the forest. So he sits with one seat between them, giving him some space to ignore him should he decide company isn't what he wants. At first he eats his own noodles in silence, judging the mood of the interaction.]

Rough trip here, huh?
photoshooter: (WHISPER 📷 So what's the plan?)

[personal profile] photoshooter 2018-04-30 10:08 am (UTC)(link)
[SIGH.]

Dude, you don't even know.

[This dungeon was The Worst. After a moment, though, Prompto picks his head up again, more concerned and interested in his new friend than he is tired.]

How about you? Holding up okay?

[personal profile] honededge 2018-04-30 10:13 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh he knows. His own nightmare was full of fire, explosions, and the screams of the dying. It may have been too dark to make the cut into his top level.]

As solid as I'm gonna be. [He shrugs, jostling the rifle on his back.] I think I'd be more freaked out by this magical noodle shop in a tree if it wasn't for the fact that the rest of the forest is such a bitch to be in.

[personal profile] photoshooter 2018-05-01 09:29 am (UTC)(link)
[He could've handled the nightmares, maybe, if a primary figure within them hadn't turned up on the physical plane of reality, too.]

Right? It's like, okay, well, this might as well happen at this point. And the noodle lady is really nice. It could be a lot worse.
honededge: (Happy)

[personal profile] honededge 2018-05-01 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
It really could.

[And in the interest of considering you a nice person and preserving your happy demeanor, he won't even list all the ways it could be worse! He'll even try his hand at matching your optimism, Prompto! He offers a half-smile to the bowl of noodles.]

At least we made it through alive.

[That's it. "We're not dead" is his optimism.]
photoshooter: (HEE 📷 A bunny smile)

[personal profile] photoshooter 2018-05-01 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[Snort.]

Yeah, being dead would put a damper on the whole experience. Totally... kill the mood, right?
honededge: (Happy)

[personal profile] honededge 2018-05-02 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[Now it's Talon's turn to snort.]

It would be a pretty grave situation.

[personal profile] photoshooter 2018-05-03 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
More power to anyone who wants to put the 'fun' in 'funeral,' but I prefer this side of 'the other side.' Even if it gets kind of crazy sometimes.
honededge: (Happy)

[personal profile] honededge 2018-05-04 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay you've officially out-punned me. I admit defeat.

[Prompto earns a very rare laugh.]

Life being crazy is what makes it worth living, I've been told.
photoshooter: (SKETCHY 📷 Come again?)

[personal profile] photoshooter 2018-05-04 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously? Who said that? Were they crazy?

[Like, not to make snap judgments, but.]
honededge: (Laid Back)

[personal profile] honededge 2018-05-04 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Objectively, yes. She was a career criminal who convinced me that she could steal something important without killing anyone, which went exactly how you think it did.

[Boy he seems casual about the concept of literal, actual murder and theft.]

Don't think my life has ever been calm, so I can't really weigh in, for or against.
photoshooter: (REGRET 📷 Should've stayed home today...)

[personal profile] photoshooter 2018-05-05 08:17 am (UTC)(link)
I spent most of my life as a civilian, and let me tell you, it was great. Soft beds, convenience stores, nothing trying to kill me ever...

[S I G H.]

I miss those days.

[He's being light-hearted, of course, but there's something true about the sentiment, too. He really, really misses that measure of security he once had.]
honededge: (Inquiry)

[personal profile] honededge 2018-05-05 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[Soft beds? Nothing trying to kill you? Sounds super fake.]

The station doesn't set up that secure civilian feel, huh?
photoshooter: (SHARP 📷 Cut Dino's gems on that face)

[personal profile] photoshooter 2018-05-12 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, no, I mean, it's not bad here. It's actually really nice to be able to stay in one place.

[Mostly. Barring some problems he's currently having with people who think he has to stay there.]

But you know, killer robot problems, running around the world trying to keep everything from falling into darkness. It was kind of a hard adjustment to make after our hometown got taken over. Being here's practically summer camp compared to that.
honededge: (Default)

[personal profile] honededge 2018-05-12 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Damn. Sounds like you were a hero back home.

[Talon lets out a huff of laughter. He might have been a small-scale hero himself, before he made the incredibly stupid decision to help a pluckish rogue and became, objectively, a villain. Part of him wonders if he could still be a hero, here where nobody knows.]

[But not everything has to be a story, does it? Maybe it would be better to just be nobody, now.]

Never been to summer camp but I'm guessing it's a lot more lowkey than having to fight killer robots. I'll have to get used to not getting shot at, myself.
photoshooter: (AFAR 📷 Time-out corner)

[personal profile] photoshooter 2018-05-13 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
I mean, I've never been to summer camp, either, but I've seen it happen in TV shows.

[It was never going to be something that happened for him.]

And seriously, I'm not a hero. Maybe a hero's sidekick, but I'm nothing special myself. Just a guy trying to get home. ...Hoping there'll be a home, you know, left, by the time I get back.
honededge: (Default)

[personal profile] honededge 2018-05-13 12:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's fair. Admittedly there's nobody waiting for me back home and no world-ending crises on my plate, so I'm not as worried.

[Nobody left to wait for him back home. Nothing left. Just a life of crime and grime in Seattle's underbelly.]

But you do wanna get home, huh?

photoshooter: (RUB 📷 Uh I dunno...)

[personal profile] photoshooter 2018-05-13 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean... It's what I was fighting for all that time, I guess. Doing everything we had to so we could all finally go home.

[He sighs.]

Now I'm not so sure. There are things I don't like here, of course, like magical nightmare forests and tiny showers. But if all my friends were here, I think maybe I'd try to stay.
honededge: (Default)

[personal profile] honededge 2018-05-13 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Well if the stabilizers work, the nightmare forest will go away, right? As for showers, at least this place has them. AND they have hot water. Not always a guarantee, in my experience.

[Talon realizes he's done more talking than eating and takes another bite of his rapidly cooling noodles.]

Your friends could still show up, you never know. If you can get sucked into this world, so can they.

[Is this comforting?]
photoshooter: (CANDID 📷 Can't force that smile)

[personal profile] photoshooter 2018-05-18 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
A couple of them are here, yeah.

[And it's so comforting to have them.]

But that means Gladio's stuck on the other side by himself. We can't just leave him there, what kind of friends would we be if we did?
honededge: (Default)

[personal profile] honededge 2018-05-19 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Fair enough.

[He tries to keep the bitterness out of his voice. He has no one to go back to, no one to hope to see appear. Equal parts liberating and infuriating, really. This could be a fresh start with nobody at home to feel guilty about. Then again, he didn't have the luxury of anybody worrying about him being gone, either. His contacts would assume he bit it. For all intents and purposes, he was already dead back home.]
