DUNGEON - BELLMARE ENCLAVE (BELLMARE MOUNTAINS, PT 2)
The shadows are starting to grow very long as you crest his particular ridge - it's not night yet, but it will be soon. In the shadows of the afternoon, with a tall mountain already blocking the sun, lies a snow-covered valley that is different from the ones you've come across thus far in your investigation.
This valley is home to a town, and unlike all the settlements you've seen so far - Incendia, the Telovia mining town, and the manor - it's very much active. There are actual people in the streets, visible from above, going through their days on snow-free streets, bundled up against the cold.
Those of you who asked were told of the handful of people who didn't go into the slumber of stasis as the Fissure conditions of the world grew worse and worse, instead isolating themselves and trying to continue living their lives as they could. Now, it seems, you've found exactly such a group.
Welcome to the Bellmare Enclave, and enjoy your stay.
[[OOC: Welcome to part 2 of the dungeon! For the most part, interaction with the town's NPCs can be handwaved as described on the main information post. Worth noting are the following major things: The Bellmare Enclave isn't expecting visitors, though the people are generally friendly to the new arrivals. They don't know about the time dilation effect of their Fissure - to them, it's only been about eighteen years since the Slumber Plan was put in place and they withdrew from the world. And finally, by a similar token, they have no idea how far the Fissures outside of their own have grown - while it's not uncommon for them to find odd objects from time to time, they'll assume that the characters are just arrivals from other places within their own world, rather than outsiders, until told otherwise.]]

[ Terrain like this was nothing. The weather and being thrust into this environment was a bit jarring but she’d gotten used to it. Maki was close to the bottom of the cavern when it hit; what looked like a memory appearing as if from out of thin air. It was a spot she recognized. The place her, Shuichi and Kaito used to come and train but was slightly bittersweet for certain reasons.
At least until the ‘memory’ becomes clearer and it’s of her and a guy with some rather gravity defying hair sitting there on a bench. His hand is on her back, a look of concern on his face that matched the almost guilty look on her own, making her chest ache. ]
‘You can’t blame yourself for what happened to him. We just gotta keep going and get out of this alive. Let’s do this for not only him but the others, Harumaki!!’
[ Who were they talking about? This felt so familiar to her but… something was wrong. ]
‘Don’t be stupid. If we would have been more careful he would have been here right now. I… I acted rashly and it’s because of that, he--’
[ The man’s hands grasped her by the shoulders more firmly as he moved to kneel in front of her, purple eyes holding a fire to them. She was VERY familiar with them. After all, he was the one who… ]
‘Shuichi made the decision to do what he did, in the hopes it could get us out. He wanted us to live. I never thought he’d actually partner with Kokichi but you heard him. We both did. He doesn’t blame you. Let’s respect his decision and make it to the end. We’re close. Let’s reach for the stars and keep going!’
[ Upon speaking, the man’s expression softened and Maki set her jaw a little while bowing her head. What was this? Kaito was… he shouldn’t BE here and he was saying Shuichi was…? Had he been the one to kill Kokichi and work with him and was the one who…. NO. This… it wasn’t what happened. ]
‘He was the Super High School Level Detective. If anyone had a chance to get out of this game alive, it was him. What chance do WE stand?’
[ She watched this ‘other her’ just shake her head almost bitterly until Kaito just shook his head, that fire still determined and bright in his eyes. Almost seeming brighter despite her pessimism she kept expressing. It almost hurt to watch this. Whatever it was. ]
‘Don’t look at it that way, Harumaki! We’re an unstoppable team and not even Monokuma and his Monokubs could stop us now. Have faith in his memory and now in us! We’re not going to let him down.
[ Maki shook her head. No. She couldn’t watch any of this any longer, stepping back instinctively without quite realizing it. ]
...This isn’t real. He’s not… it didn’t happen that way…
[ The words are whispered, and if anyone spares a look at her face, they’ll catch a rare show of emotion… or at least a fair bit she’s trying to hide from showing. What with the tension in her shoulders and clenched fists, eyes shut tight as if trying to ignore whatever was going on here. ]
[ What I Never Had ]
[ Growing up had been difficult. Impossibly so. The rigorous training she’d been put through had been painful and made her into who she was today, but her walls had fallen from where they’d been put up.
Not that it prepared her for what happened when she set foot on the bottom of the cavern fully, another memory materializing. It was what looked like a happy family in their living room. A mother with dark hair and sweet, kind eyes and a father bearing graying brown hair and a slight beard. The mother was setting up in the kitchen, calling out with a soft voice. ]
‘Maki-chan! Dinner’s ready! Would you like to come and help set the table?’
[ Her chest tightened a little, eyes widening as she watched what appeared to be a younger, ten year old version of herself coming down the stairs with bright eyes and a soft smile on her face. ]
‘Yes! Of course, Okaa-san.’ [ This younger her made to head for the table, only stopped by her father who gave her a gentle smile and a light gesture for her to come over. ] ‘Otou-san! You’re home!’
[ Her father just laughed softly as he gave her a loving, warm hug. ]
‘I got home just a few minutes ago, Maki-chan. Your mother recently informed me that you have a boy you like at school?’
[ Immediately ‘Maki’s’ face went red and she hid her face as she ran to the kitchen so she could start getting things to set the table ]
‘I-I do not! Okaa-san, why did you tell him?’
[ As the scene kept going, it then began to fade away and she backed away until she was back against the cavern wall, eyes wide. This brought up a whole bunch of emotions she didn’t want to think about. This was this… idealized idea of… if she had actually been adopted by a family instead of taken in to become an assassin?! ]
...Damn them... why...?
What I Never Had
Welcome to Fissures and their effects, they're generally all awful.
[He doesn't ask if she's okay right now. Somehow, he gets the feeling she wouldn't appreciate the question]

So they usually have effects that... hurt, then?
[ The wordless pain edges into her voice, not moving even as she makes to try and push herself up from the cavern wall in an attempt to try and compose herself. Maki's too used to putting up walls so the less vulnerable sides she shows to people the better. ]
...So annoying...

[He reaches into the small pack he carries with him on these expeditions and pulls out a bottle of water, offering it to Maki wordlessly]
Still, it's better than sitting back at the base and doing nothing, even when it's something like this.

[ A soft sigh escaped her, closing her eyes briefly. When she re-opened them, it took only a scant moment before she took the offered bottle of water with a small nod of her head as thanks. ]
Mm. I guess you have a point. [ A pause. ] It will take some getting used to, either way.
