DUNGEON LOG - TELOVIA MINES

The day dawns bright and early - the same as most every expedition. The only difference is that you'll need to take the teleportation pad to Lodestone as a starting point - the gliders and drones are already there. There's clouds on the horizon, though, so if you're going to take a glider and go, you'd better get going.

There's some new additions, though, to the usual group of androids seeing you off. Tau is checking over the drones ready to carry those who can't or won't use the gliders, and Muon is practicing opening and collapsing the wings of a glider with bright yellow sails. She grins at anyone who approaches, shooting them a thumbs up.

"Don't worry about getting lost or falling behind! As long as Tau's here, they'll keep us all together."

And with that bit of bright cheer, it's off towards the mountains you go...

----

From the air, the remains of the mining town are almost impossible to tell from any other part of the forest. The trees - especially the old ones - are much thinner, and that's really the only sign of what's below.

But Muon's bright yellow glider, leading the way, dips down into the treeline before landing in an open space, and anyone who isn't paying enough attention to follow will feel their glider being herded in the same direction by Tau's power - control not outright taken, but more of a nudge, like, hey buddy it's this way. The group lands just beyond the border of the Fissure - a tiny stable spot in whatever's left of this world.

And a good thing, too, because landing in the Fissure itself could prove quite difficult...

[On the whole, the Metaverse seems to be better-liked than the Dark Hour. At least, he hasn't actually heard talk of active attempts to destroy it. But...]

2009, for me. Height of Apathy Syndrome epidemic. ...Heard that's still a thing in the future. Wish it weren't.

[Especially since it's apparently deliberate. The thought alone is upsetting - too much like Strega... He has to play his cards right if he's going to figure out if this black mask is that black mask.]

Apathy Syndrome? I'm afraid I haven't heard the term before, do you know if it's called something else by Akira and Goro's time?

[There's something curious in the way Kurama looks at Minato, and it isn't just over not knowing what Apathy Syndrome is. For now, though, he leaves it on a back burner. The fact that they're still very close to the extremely predatory tree is a bigger concern.

His first attempt to regress the vicious thing is rebuffed. It's not pleasing but not exactly a surprise. Hi ki flares briefly around him as he throws more effort behind the second attempt. Kurama isn't just going to move Minato away and leave the damned thing; Goro has that unfortunate tendency to eat things without making sure they're okay to eat.

The tree dwindles away into a purple seed lying on the cavern floor.]

[Crunch time.] Akira-kun called it a "mental shutdown".

[The tree....vanishes? His head's still swimming, but his vision is mostly clear again. It's just- no, there's a seed left. How...? That's not a Persona skill, it has to be something else.]

...what was that tree?

[Kurama goes subtly still for a long moment at that. Mental shutdowns... And they're the same as something that happened in Minato's time? He doesn't like that; Goro considers Minato a friend which means Minato's judgement could hurt him.]

...I didn't know they had happened before. I'm a little surprised Akira is talking about them, to be honest. You must be closer than I'd realized.

[He gives Minato enough time to read that before stepping away for a moment to pick up the seed and hide it away in his hair.]

I'm not sure, but it's predatory. It feeds on death.

[Based on the text, this person doesn't seem to know much. Maybe Minato was wrong to be suspicious. He probably was. He knows Akira, right? And Goro. He can't be a bad guy.]

He's my kohai. As a WildCard. [So yep, pretty close.] Akechi-san said there's someone causing them. Different from the epidemic.

[A tree that feeds on death... Something tells him it's more than just corpses becoming fertilizer. Which brings him, uncomfortably, to the reminder that he isn't just one soul. Is... Is Pharos okay?]

Tasted good... Kind of like an apple.

[personal profile] byanyother_name 2018-09-26 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
[Kurama pays attention to people. He sees the edge of caution and suspicion fade and it's... Honestly it's Very Concerning because he knows he didn't give Minato any reason for it to. Does he always trust so easily? That's dangerous, and it leaves him worried. Worried and more protective than he'd like to admit.

It makes more sense, that they hadn't told him anything.

But... another Wildcard? And Goro told him a person was causing the shutdowns...]

There was, but not anymore. Not in Goro or Akira's times, at least. Another Wildcard, though... Now I wonder how many there have been.

[Kurama can't honestly say he's surprised to hear that it tasted good. Displeased, but not surprised. That's not usual in human world plants, but there are some in Makai. He frowns slightly.]

It wants the fruit to be eaten, so that the eaters die here beneath it. How are you feeling?
biddentodance: (Save your breath,it's far from over)

[personal profile] biddentodance 2018-09-26 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
[...so it's over. Good. That's a relief. And even Apathy Syndrome is better than dead. People don't come back from dead. Everything will be alright.]

Don't know. Igor implied there hasn't been one for a while, before me. Lot I don't get, still...

[Like...how Pharos connects. Why him? Why are things happening when and how they are? And if the end is delayed from when it should be....what does it all mean? He shakes the thoguhts from his head, there's more to read.]

Feel fine. [He doesn't, but what other answer is there? ...Wait.] Mostly. Better.

[He's still feeling aches, and his stomach wants to be emptier than it is (how???), but none of his lingering symptoms are important.]

It feels like dealing with a puzzle that's missing pieces. I'd wondered how much of that was interference, but perhaps it's more an issue of the information being separated by years.

[Kurama frowns, very faintly, at Minato's response about his own wellbeing. He's all too familiar with this particular usage of 'fine' and it's why he hates the word.

He moves closer and leans over without hesitation, offering Minato a gloved hand to help him stand. His green eyes stand out, starkly vivid behind the black of his mask, soft with unconcealed concern.]

You said you're a Wildcard. Do you have a Persona with healing?
biddentodance: (Now the dark is taking over)

[personal profile] biddentodance 2018-09-26 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Interference.... Yaldabaoth? [That was the "outside influence" Goro had mentioned. And relating to the Velvet Room. That's...bad. That's bad. The contract...

It's starting to look like Goro was right. Turmoil and dread have become familiar companions for Minato, it's why he's avoided thinking about this. Seems he can't anymore. He sounds like his mind has gone somewhere else. Somewhere fearful. He hides it well.]

Think...I need to talk to them both. Something serious.

[But he lets that fall to the background again as he takes the hand up. He's still kind of unsteady.]

...Yeah, but... Don't summon the same way you do. Akira-kun reacted pretty badly.

[personal profile] byanyother_name 2018-10-01 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
So they've even told you that... Yes, that's what I mean.

[Kurama notices it, though, despite Minato's concealment. He's more than familiar with this sort of thing. He doesn't press, though. He's barely met Minato. It's not his place.]

I'm sure they'll listen to whatever you have to say.

[Kurama helps him balance, frowning slightly at the unsteadiness. That isn't a good sign...]

I count myself duly warned. I'll handle it. I'd like to see you properly recovered from this.
biddentodance: (Leave the lost and dead behind)

[personal profile] biddentodance 2018-10-02 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
A little, yeah. [He doesn't know many details. But it's starting to look a hell of a lot more relevant...he. Doesn't even know where to begin, he doesn't want the line his thoughts are taking, doesn't even want to try to put anything into words yet.

He nods, then. If Kurama is prepared... Unfortunately? Minato only has Dia and Media available to him. He sets Virtue. Then he draws that 'gun' of his...and points it to his head. Pulls the trigger. The customary bang-shatter.]

Come forth! [It's not a lot...but he does feel better. The summon lasts only just long enough to cast the healing.]
byanyother_name: (Little bit sad?)

[personal profile] byanyother_name 2018-10-02 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
[...oh. Kurama's eyes go wide, but he doesn't lose it the way Akira did. In fact, the wide eyes look more like realization than anything else. It's only for a moment, though, because his expression closes off to hide the sadness he feels.

After all-]

...I'm afraid I'm probably the reason Akira reacted quite so badly to it. I wouldn't suggest doing it in front of Goro without a warning, either.

Did it help?
biddentodance: (Watch the end through dying eyes)

[personal profile] biddentodance 2018-10-04 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
[...good, he...didn't bother him. Minato would hate himself for not warning thoroughly enough, especially given what happened as a result of his not warning Akira. His kohai could have died in those tunnels.

He...that was his fault. He was the leader. He messed up bad. And no, of course it doesn't even cross his mind that he almost didn't survive that, either.]

...He froze up. I...nearly got him killed...

[...]

Little bit...only dia, but better than nothing.
byanyother_name: (How is this my life?)

[personal profile] byanyother_name 2018-10-06 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
[Kurama lets his thief gear drop, a brief flicker of blue flame leaving him back in the green bondage coat and black pants he started out with. His ears and tail vanish and his hair bleeds back to red from silver.

He looks concerned by Minato's words. All of them, really.]

You couldn't have known. I'm sure he doesn't blame you.

Only a Dia... Here, I'm not very good at this yet, but let me try...

[He reaches into his inventory and pulls out a 1Up, holding it in his hands and focusing on it intently. His first attempt at turning it into a hi-potion fails miserably, and his eyes narrow with irritation. The second attempt is much more successful, healing energy infusing into the drink before he offers it to Minato.]

I recently gained a number of new powers, including the ability to turn drinks into healing items.
biddentodance: (All is lost again)

[personal profile] biddentodance 2018-10-06 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
[I blame me. It's not something he says aloud. It's not a statement that means anything, to anyone.

He'll do better next time.]

Hadn't heard of a controlled summoning without one, before.

[He didn't even know it was possible, and to most that would be enough to earn forgiveness for the mistake. Not so, for Minato. What he did and didn't know doesn't change what happened, or that it was his fault.

He watches the whole process quietly. It reminds him, a little, of Goro pulling a bottle of cold medicine out of thin air (...thin...water? They were underwater). Then, once he's read the text, he...cracks it open and takes a swig. Look, it's a drink, how's he supposed to know you usually just break one of these?]

Like Akechi-san can do?
byanyother_name: (Well...)

[personal profile] byanyother_name 2018-10-24 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
I find myself wondering if the summoning methods change over time.

[In all fairness, the breaking thing makes no sense to Kurama anyway. Why make the potion out of a drink if you aren't going to drink it? And it's not as if drinking it doesn't work.

He shakes his head slightly at the question.]

Not really. This is less convenient but longer lasting. I need to start from an existing drink instead of creating one, but the healing effect doesn't wear off after twenty minutes. Is it helping?
biddentodance: (All is lost again)

[personal profile] biddentodance 2018-10-25 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Not sure... [He thinks for a minute.] Evokers were developed by the Kirijo Group. Would make sense if other groups didn't use......but Strega has them [Come to think of it, why? How did they get them?] Maybe something about the....the Metaverse thing? We don't have that.

[Just cold reality and a gun. Maybe it's weird that Minato has never struggled with pulling the trigger. He's been called much worse than weird, though, and over less.

So it's only sort of similar to Goro's power. Briefly he wonders about his fellow who other abilities, but it's not his place to ask. And it's not important, anyway. He keeps drinking. And nods. He's already feeling notably better.]

Vision's almost fully cleared. Thank you.
