Who: Kurama and others
What: Assorted prompts into early April
Where: Multiple locations around and outside the station
Warnings: None yet except for Kurama being more clearly not alive while sleeping
March 12
[The day after they closed the Fissure, Kurama can be found in the afternoon on the new viewing deck... Though he doesn't seem to be enjoying the view. Instead, the redhead is curled in a chair with a stick covered in runes, the tip burning with a flickering black flame.
His jaw is clenched tight as he watches it burn sadly.]
March 14
[Anyone passing by the Magic Lab today might notice the door has...ice creeping through the spaces around it? If they actually check inside, it's worse; more than half the room is iced over to greater or lesser degrees.
And in the middle of it all is a figure not familiar to everyone. A tall, silver fox spirit with golden eyes, currently doing his best to offer a contrite expression as he holds a large seed in one hand.]
I really am sorry, Charm. I promise I'll do my best to clean it up.
[The way his tail is going probably gives away that he is a lot more satisfied than sorry, though.]
March 29
[It's actually a fairly nice day. Kurama was taking advantage of it to spend some time out in the sun. Well, originally he was. Now he's asleep on the roof, white wings visible for once and curled around him. They're softer than Goro's, more like an owl's.
He really didn't mean to fall asleep out here, but the sun feels nice and he's tired. ...he's also, for the particularly observant, not actually breathing. Hopefully that won't freak anyone out.]
April 2
[The clear ground on the clifftops leaves room for a lot of things that the garden floor couldn't really accommodate. There will still be plenty of open area left when Kurama is done, but some of it is being covered in various types of trees. Most kinds he only grows one or two of, enough to handle their needs. His fingers lightly brush the trunks as he walks through them once they're grown.
Then he grows sakura trees. More than one or two, more like a small grove. Pink petals bloom against white bark, delicate and beautiful. The way he looks at them is fond, if tinged with aching nostalgia.]
It's the right time of year for hanami, too...

Thoughts for another time, of course. Namely because a certain redhead looks incredibly cute, all wrapped up like that.
With a small smile, he sits down next to his boyfriend, reaching out to gently brush his hand against Kurama's face. Then, after that, he's nudging him just hard enough to wake him for the sake of asking: ]
Got room for another?
no subject
He hums sleepily at the question and the top wing shifts, feathers lifting and unfurling to allow his boyfriend inside.]
no subject
With his fingers brushing through his boyfriend's hair, he presses a soft kiss to his cheek. ]
no subject
One arm slips around Akira's waist, fingers curling lazily into the fabric of his shirt. It's clear Kurama really isn't fully awake, if not by the slow movements than by the yawn that escapes him now that he's breathing.]
no subject
Nothing comes without a price, and yet moments like this are what he'd consider priceless.
He won't be doing anything to try properly waking Kurama; he's perfectly happy to remain curled up like this with him. If they manage to doze off, that's fine by him. Things that require them being awake can come later. ]
April 2nd
[Prompto wanders the newly forested area with awe. He doesn't even think to take pictures for the first few minutes, and then he sees the sakura trees and his camera's in his hand without conscious thought. Snap, snap snap. A little misty-eyed, he looks down at his photos while he walks, then steps right beneath one of the trees and takes a shot from beneath, through the short-lived petals at the sky above.]
I guess it really is springtime, huh?
[Only then does he see Kurama and literally shake that wistful, homesick feeling away.]
Oh, hey, man! [He spreads his arms to indicate the grove.] I was wondering where these came from, but did you make them all?
no subject
I did. They took a bit of energy but nothing I can't spare right now. Mostly harmless plants like these aren't that much of a drain.
And they remind me of home.
no subject
[Prompto's quiet and thoughtful again for a moment, but then he turns back to Kurama.]
Did you need a seed for them, or can you just... grow anything?
no subject
I need a seed or a cutting from an existing plant. I've gotten some here, but the sakura seeds I actually had with me when I arrived.
no subject
[Growing wistful, he returns to petting the tree like it's an old, familiar friend, then adds:]
Man, too bad about needing a seed though. I was hoping maybe you could grow some greens for me, when my chocobo egg hatches? I dunno, maybe Noct will have something you can use. Like, if that's okay. I'll pay you back!
no subject
[Kurama is assuming 'greens' is referring to something specific in this case. Context is everything. He hums thoughtfully.]
I've certainly thought that myself a time or two. You could also see about checking the Fissure in case anything turns up. But if nothing pans out, we can try to find a temporary substitute. I don't mind. I'm already producing a great deal of the station's fruits and vegetables. It lightens the load on Bottom and Charm.
no subject
[He mirrors Kurama's pose, leaning back against a tree.]
It isn't tough, making food for everybody? Pretty sure I'd crack under that kind of pressure.
no subject
[Kurama doesn't believe for a moment that the people they have here now are going to be the end of it.]
Domestic plants don't take that much energy, and I enjoy tending them. It's not a problem for me, and...it helps me stay occupied. It was especially necessary for me before we stabilized the beach.
I don't know exactly how much Akira has shared with you, but none of us deal with confinement well anymore.
no subject
[He looks away, hands behind his back, tapping his fingers against tree bark.]
Sometimes people just need someone to feel, like... normal around, even when a lot of heavy stuff is going on inside. I'm pretty good at that, so. You guys can tell me what you want, but I won't push or anything. Okay?
Mar 12
Rune magic?
[It's not a form of magecraft he's entirely familiar with, he's no Caster for a reason, but he'll hazard an educated guess.]
no subject
It seems to be. I found these in the Fissure. They're very simple, though, perhaps a beginner's practice items. All they do is burn in different colors.
no subject
[You have his attention with the pretty things.]
no subject
So far, pink, purple, blue, green, and black.
no subject
[Let's play with fire, Kurama!]
no subject
He lights it off the black fire of the other, and sure enough, the new stick burns with a bright pink flame.]
They're entertaining, I'll give them that.
no subject
How well-versed are you in Magic?
no subject
This particular sort? Not very. My specialty has always been in unraveling mystical locks and seals, and a certain familiarity with the history and powers of major magical artifacts.
no subject
Oh? How come?
no subject
Ah... I was quite the legendary bandit and thief, once upon a time.
['Once upon a time', he says, as if he wasn't picking locks less than two weeks before ending up here.]
no subject
Astolfo's eyes widen and he nods encouragingly.]
Go on!
no subject
So he shifts the burning sticks in his fingers, letting them shift the way light and shadow play across his face.]
Youko Kurama, I was called then. One of the demon world's most cunning thieves and deadliest bandits. Cold as ice, ruthless and without mercy.
no subject
He tries not to interrupt, but quietly echoes "The Demon World?" after he speaks, curious enough- but he wants to hear the rest first.]
March 14th
And then he looks inside. Who in the world...? Also, what in the world...]
... Uh, should I come back later or... would you like some help with cleaning that up...
no subject
[How observant is Robin feeling? The voice is deeper but cadence and tone haven't really changed. Kurama gives a faintly rueful sigh in the vague direction of the worst icing before setting his new seed aside.]
I probably should have done this outside now that we have some stable ground out there.
no subject
[As if to emphasize his point, he pulls out his Thoron tome briefly, then puts it away.
... The voice does sound familiar, though. Now that's interesting. He follows Kurama's gaze before chuckling.]
Might I ask just what you were trying to do?
no subject
[Now that the cause of all this is inert and he's had his moment to be smug, it's probably time to confirm Robin's guess, actually. The tall form shifts, shrinks, and changes until a more familiar redhead is walking towards the thick patch of ice.]
Ah... I found some vials of thorns and cuttings from various plants in the Fissure before we closed it. Some of them were intriguingly unfamiliar, so I thought I would grow them and see what they are.
Frosttrap, as you can see, rather lived up to the name before I managed to get it under control properly.
no subject
Find anything of particular interest?
no subject
[It's rueful but also tinged with genuine humor. Kurama's fingers brush the ice thoughtfully.]
This was the first one. It seems to be a mobile plant that produces cold and ice and spits seeds as a primary attack. Thankfully I put a stop to that part quickly. The ice at least will melt.
no subject
Fair enough.
[But the description makes him grin, and it's probably obvious that the gears are already turning...]
At least there's that, yes. Though, if something like that could be properly harnessed...
[There's really nothing as exciting as new tactical possibilities--at least there isn't for Robin.]
no subject
[So yeah, basically Kurama's playtime with new plants? Equal parts botany geek and tactical possibilities, pretty much always.]
no subject
[Curious as he may be, he's not entirely sold on the idea of being iced over if that Frosttrap comes out again.]
Ah, if I wouldn't be intruding, of course...
