[One thing that's immediately noteworthy is that, since Incendia, Heart's picked up a long black coat to wear. We'll see how long this one lasts. Speaking of new things...

It's a little hard to tell sometimes, because it blends right in with the black. But several times, you can find Heart together with a tiny black kitten. One of those little soot cats! You might see Heart carrying the little thing around around the station, holding the kitten very carefully. As if he's afraid he's going to break her. Or maybe you find the two of them in the common room, where the little soot kitten is attacking Heart's coat while he just seems a little baffled.

Other days, you might find him in the kitchen, practicing some very basic things like cooking rice or preparing eggs, but hey, looks like he's not burning anything. At night, Heart sometimes goes up to the roof in the middle of the night just to watch the sky.

A little further into the month, Heart is at the beach. Well, that's not new, he's there often enough. But it's a little on the late side. Of course, you're likely to catch a quick glimpse of a bright light before you even see Heart there - it's all the more visible in the dark like this. The sound that goes along with it is faint, but it sounds a little like... the crackle of lightning? And Heart, standing alone on the beach, has his eyes shut tightly as he breathes in... before raising his arm and shooting another small bolt of lightning at the beach.

It's not the most impressive show of thunder magic in the world, but it certainly looks as if it's taking him an awful lot of effort to do even this much.]

[It's been a few days, weeks, well, at least long enough for Mai to decide that Bear-san can go off his leash again with heavy supervision around all the new animals. The little robot creature totters toward the kitten excitedly, beeps, and --]

Not food.

[-- and falls over. Mai approaches her prone pet and the cat-san and then gives a small bow to Heart.]

Hello.

[The kitten is immediately interesting in this strange moving and beeping robot and starts playfully swatting Bear-san.]

Good day, Mai Kawasumi. I see things are going well with your companion.

[Bear-san whines. Mai picks him up and pets him as he growls dejectedly.]

Heart. And cat-san. One of the ones from Yuuri's box?

[myocordial]

Hm, that's right. She insisted that I take one.

...Saying no wasn't really an option.

It's like that. She asked me too. But I didn't know how they would get along with Bear-san.

[Who is being petted as he grumps.]

She has faith in you. Because you take care of people. So you can take care of cat-san.

[I'm sorry, Heart, Izunia can't help but look amused at your confused, helpless face.]

It seems you have a playmate.

[The kitten seems determined to chew on the coat, but keeps losing her grip before she can.]

She... seems to think my coat is her enemy.

[That's kittens for you. Izunia makes no secret of bending down to watch.]

Well, she is at the age where everything is exciting to play with.

You can't just "pause" cooking and resume it later. At least, not for most things, so if you're going to do that you might as well tell me what you're making.

All I'm doing is practicing. There's no reason I can't stop and try something else later. It's just a simple rice dish, nothing important.

[A small dagger stuck in the sand a few feet away, followed immediately by a streak of magenta ending in Ardyn himself appearing with a brief aura of the same color.]

[...how far away did he see this from, it is a mystery. he sure can throw a knife awful far, though.]

[Heart blinks, not expecting Ardyn's sudden arrival. But quickly, his expression changes to a smile that isn't at all strained I don't know what you're talking about.]

Of course I am. I'm just practicing a little, that's all.

[honey are you really gonna pull that on the one person that knows you have issues with lightning]

[you're goddamn right he's gonna pull it, he's sliding deep into denial here try and stop him]

Yes. It's something I should be practicing sooner or later, isn't it?

[ Smug isn't a good look on anyone, but it's the look Yuuri's wearing once she spots Heart being savaged by this terrible little predator. She watches for a moment, evidently more than a little pleased with herself before she makes her way over. ]

See? I told you all along you two would get along just fine.

Ah. Is... that what's happening here?

[Yuuri... help.]

Of course. She's saying she wants to play with you.

[ or that she hates his coat. same diff. ]

It almost seems more like a challenge...

[But he's amused, if nothing else. The kitten, meanwhile, is now pawing at Yuuri's feet. A new challenger approaches!]

I suppose she's just very... spirited.

...Nothing to worry about. Just magic practice. It's one of my less practiced skills, so I'm working on it.
