DUNGEON LOG: INCENDIA

Is everybody ready? The gliders are all set for those of you who are ready to go; Strange and Up are taking the drones, too, if you're not comfortable flying. They're all down in the hangar cavern waiting.

And indeed, so they are - there's four of the androids in the cavern, actually, in a gaggle around one of the metallic drones. Top is here, apparently to give them a send-off, giving Charm's shoulders a tight squeeze before stepping away to oversee and help anyone who needs a hand with the gliders. Charm, Strange, and Up are all carrying packed bags - Charm's a bright red backpack, the other two with reasonably large duffels.

If you hadn't heard about the androids planning to accompany you, it's pretty obvious now as the three of them load up, Strange and Charm in one of the drones and Up in the other.

And then, whether it's by glider or flying drone or some other means, away you go, with a last reminder -

Don't forget that sunset in the city is around 7PM this time of year! Don't get caught aboveground, and make sure to tell anyone you run into who's just arrived!

For right now, it's a bright, sunny morning as you set off... But don't forget...

Further information about the dungeon can be found here, with a special bonus of a separate Shops page for all your looting needs! Characters aboard the drones will initially arrive at the lake shore, in the shipping yard, but those aboard gliders are welcome to land themselves whereever.

[Prompto nods.]

Yeah. Yeah, it's lonelier like this. Maybe if we weren't strangers, though--if we knew the place already--it'd be different.

[He kneels to touch a blacked-out teleporter.]

Then, when you're attached to a place, too, it hurts to, like. Find those pieces of what you knew before. Statues. House numbers. That kind of stuff.

[He takes his time to reply, casting a gaze over the abandoned luggage.]

I imagine it would be.

[With having known nothing but war and destruction for so long, attachment to a life before seems like a dream.]

...Did you ever live in a place like this? Like, a city.
anarchia: (a cold and broken awoo)

Once. A long time ago.

[He sighs, slow and long.]

Once, probably.

...I'm sorry.

[He looks down at the camera in his hand, tracing the edge of it with his thumb.]

I miss my city.
anarchia: (hidden awoo)

What was it like?

[He makes some effort to soften his voice from its usual growl.]

[He's used to the tough guy growl, wolfbot, it's fine.]

Kind of like this. All the shopping and the skyscrapers. But...

[Prompto's gaze moves off into the distance, over the gleaming skyline.]

Everywhere you looked, you could feel the history of it. The dignity of the old kings, the statues and stone buildings. And... everywhere you looked, you could see the Wall, and you remembered there was a war outside.

But inside... it was safe to grow up. I lived my whole childhood inside that Wall.
anarchia: (wreck and awoo)

[personal profile] anarchia 2018-07-26 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
A wall to protect civilians? [Not a bad idea, why involve even more in conflict they have no reason to be in?] I'll take it that war wasn't brief.

[He also assumes that wall couldn't keep conflict outside for long, but for Prompto's sake he doesn't mention it.]

Was your city's history a good one?
photoshooter: (RUB 📷 Uh I dunno...)

[personal profile] photoshooter 2018-07-26 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
...I'm not sure. I mean, the way they teach it in schools, it's all noble and stuff. But...

[But sometimes some people pull a twinswitch murderfest and everything goes to hell all over for thousands of years, THANKS, GUYS.]

I guess a lot of stuff gets left out of the books.
anarchia: (no awoo)

[personal profile] anarchia 2018-07-28 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
That tends to be the way. Victors decide history, they wash themselves clean of any blood in the process.

[Just a little bitterness.]
photoshooter: (BEAT 📷 You worried about me?)

[personal profile] photoshooter 2018-07-31 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
...Walls do a lot more than protect the people inside, yeah. They stop you from seeing a lot, too.
anarchia: (pointed awoo)

[personal profile] anarchia 2018-07-31 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd say there's a bliss in ignorance, but-

[He sighs.]

All that time not knowing just makes you sicker when you find out.

[Prompto's quiet for quite a while.]

Yeah.

[Eventually, he sighs.]

Turned out I was never supposed to be inside. That I was one of the things the Wall was supposed to keep out.

...But I loved it there.

[Carnivac remains silent for a moment.]

...That's not right.

[He holds his gaze firm at Prompto.]

You have as much of a right to safety as anyone else. Happiness too.
