DUNGEON LOG: KEYSTONE SHORE

The morning of the 9th, everyone will get a message sent to their communication devices -

Okay, guys! I think we have enough stabilizers to try and get the shoreline stable. If you want to help out, grab your supplies and come on up to the roof!

When characters arrive at the roof, they'll find Top - with a wheeling table full of many copies of the same odd-looking device - the two exploratory drones, and a ramp down off the roof to the ground. (The latter looks a little hastily constructed.)

"Okay," Top says, picking up one of the devices. "Here's the stabilizers. Stick them to walls and stuff - mostly out of the way places where they're not going to get knocked off - and then press the buttons along the side."

They demonstrate, unfolding the set of legs at one end of the device before showing the buttons to anyone who's close enough. "Go ahead and take a couple, especially if you've got one of those space-saving inventories going on, I know there's like four of you with those? Strange got some first aid kits together, too, if you want."

Sure enough, another table nearby has the med kits... As well as traditional paper bag lunches, courtesy of Bottom. Don't question it too much.

"We'll be staying back here to keep track of the stabilization progress and work the drones," Top says, "but don't hesitate to call if you get in trouble! We'll send one of these guys down to get you an evac if you need it."

And with that, you're free to go down the ramp... Or to make for the beach however else you might choose to go.

[Privately, she agrees with him; she deserves every syllable of reprimand he gives her on this one, but she's not just going to come out and say that. Not right now, at least.]

[Now it’s distracted enough, Astolfo dismisses La Black Luna and, in the same shimmer of gold light, summons his lance to his hand. Pointing it towards the bird, he charges for its knees.

...do seagulls have knees?]

[It's something close enough to optimism. He'll take it.]

Did you get to see a lot of places like that when you were [He pauses a moment to think of the word, and clicks his fingers when it comes to him.] corporeal?

[Dance, birdy, dance! It manages to mostly avoid the bullets by pure luck in the process of flailing, but it's still off balance enough that Touma's not getting his head eaten yet.]

[They are definitely going to have those words later though.

... But in the meantime, he finally goes to properly slash at the bird with about as much force as he can muster.]

[Wren watches Robin move in for the kill, then dashes forward to follow his strike up with a swift stab of her own. She immediately pulls Catria back slightly, and as she holds her spear aloft, she's enshrouded by a an incandescent aura.

With her entire body set ablaze, she moves forward again to deliver a second stab to the same point, this one strengthened with magic. Should it connect, a shower of cherry blossoms will spill forth from the wound.]

[The bird shoves off from the ground just briefly, narrowly avoiding their blows and sending quite a bit of sand flying in their faces. Miss sound effect plays here.]

[Well, that didn't work. Rather than the whip wrapping its neck, the bird managed to catch the end of the whip in its beak -

- Which it then immediately drops with Regret because that's worse than the Spicy Curry but hey sometimes your beak is just a little on fire. At least it seems to have stopped it snapping at Touma.]

[Why is this bird rolling dodge so well? Looks like Alastor's attempt at swoopy stabs failed to the same sudden takeoff and gust of air that made Robin and Wren miss.]

[Cori, you might be a little short to get to its wing from here with that little thing...

She manages to graze its foot, though, so that's something.]

[Well, with its attention distracted by the folks on the ground, it seems to have forgotten that other enemies can fly for the time being.

Bird is not smart. Bird takes a direct hit to the head, which does not make it happy.]

[Well, lucky for Touma, it's pretty distracted at this point, mostly by Letty's whip and Goro going for its head. The flailing is ongoing, but if he can hold on, it's no longer actively trying to eat him!]

[Oh good melee phase! Sort of good? It's progress, anyway. He's just glad he landed a solid hit with the arrow; he can only do that once every couple of minutes, after all. And a combat round is only six seconds.

So now Kurama falls back on an old favorite. He launches himself past the bird, whip snapping out in a series of rapid blows that can tear through steel.

[They do! ... But they're pretty skinny knees, so he mostly just kinda scrapes one. It's bleeding, though.]

[SHOTS SHOTS SHOTS SHOTS just be careful that you don't friendly fire the guy on its back!

The bird isn't entirely able to dodge those, but they're mostly grazing shots as it tries to take off again.]

[A hit! Or, rather, many small hits, which rip through some of the flight feathers as well as the bird's belly. It is now grounded.]

[thoroff]

[WELL MAYBE IF SOMEONE HADN'T STOPPED TO NAG INSTEAD OF JUST HITTING THE THING WE COULD HAVE GOT IT BEFORE THAT HAPPENED.]

CATHERD + ROUND FOUR

[The first handful of melee attacks don't land, as the bird tries to flap its way out of the way... But then Goro comes in from above, with a blow to the head, and the combination of that and Kurama's whip tearing at its flight feathers sends it crashing back to the ground in short order.

It is now permanently grounded - and on a bad leg, to boot, thanks to the efforts of Prompto, Cori, and Astolfo going at its feet.

Less glamorous than most kids assume. Involves a lot of time spent at close quarters with a relatively small group of people, mostly, and when you're not operating under official marching orders, a fair amount of careful negotiation to try and get the least objectionable and most competent group of people to be stuck in those close quarters with.

Salvage work on abandoned colonies is interesting, though. I liked that better than smuggling or piracy.

[You know what is long-standing Persona user tradition for when all enemies are down? Hitting it with everything they have. Normally he'd have a dramatic call to attack here, but since he's kind of deaf right now...he's just going to give the most obvious flourish of his sword he can and charge at it in a flurry of wings and glowing slashes.]

[ Well, it's nothing quite so fancy but there sure it's a tiny blonde girl joining the fight by aiming to that typewriter case over the bird's head. A touch overkill but that's how we do things. ]
