[ It's a nice sunny morning in the Keystone Station and someone has set the god damn kitchen on fire again.

It seems like it happens quite suddenly, going by the shriek of surprise that comes from the kitchen. A plume of jet black smoke comes streaming out from the door just before the fire alarm wails and the kitchen sprinklers kick in. It's a total mess, is what I'm saying.

If you're a brave enough soul to investigate, you'll find that it's not one of the usual suspects in there – it's Yuuri, coughing and scowling and sopping wet, scraping the scorched remains of what looks like a fried breakfast into the trash so she can try and salvage this pan. Goodness.

A little later, she makes her way to the laundry room, attached to the other kitchen. It's the opposite end of the station she usually frequents but the one in her normal kitchen still smells like smoke, which is... sort of her own fault. But on the topic of stinking of smoke, that's Yuuri right now. She's sat there against the wall, scrolling through the network on her phone while her clothes rumble away in the washer. She smells like a bonfire, honestly. What's going on here? ]

[ Silence is golden and the golden rule of libraries, which is why Yuuri's being nice and polite and quiet while she goes through the books today. It does look like she's trying to track down something in particular, going by the growing pile on the desk behind her, so if you're a kind soul you might want to give her a hand.

Or, if you stick around long enough, you might just see the book she's paused to flick through burst into flames in her hand for no apparent reason. Rather reasonably, Yuuri's response is to yelp in shock and toss the flaming book right onto the ground. It takes a few stomps to put it out, but once she's reasonably sure it's not going to set alight again, Yuuri takes a few steps back from the bookshelf, clutching both hands to her desk. ]

Just... just what's going on today?!

[Sonja may not have had any particular interest in looking over Yuuri's shoulder when it was just research on the table - she's settled into an armchair not too far away with something dense to read - but flames? Flames get her attention.

She leaves her book in her seat, and hurries over to the now gently smoldering scene of the incident.] What on earth were you studying?

[ Nono only has one set of real clothing-clothes, so she's been dutifully washing it everyday. And today is no different, as she enters with a very small bundle of dirty clothes under one arm while wearing a ridiculous futuristic white bodysuit - the kind she wears off into space battle. Complete with orange shades.

She pauses when she enters and just. Smells the smoke, clinging to Yuuri. ]

UM.... Is everything all right?

[After CAH last night and Mai being dragged back to her room, she staggers out and goes straight to the kitchen opposite Yuuri's, since her room's right next to it. And... spots Yuuri? Still looking unwell, she drags herself over there.]

[ALARM is ALARMING. Of course Church has to run into the kitchen like he's gonna, what, fucking fireman carry someone away like a hero? There's no plan here, he just knows BAD which means RUN TOWARDS IT LIKE A MORON.

Hey-[cough]-hey, who went and ruined breakfast? It wasn't me this time, I promise.

[ There's a fraction of a second in which Yuuri has a chance to protest – not even long enough for her to start speaking. Which is fortunate, because it keeps her from inhaling all the fire extinguisher fumes that come spewing out and drown her in a cloud of white.

The good news is that the fire is out, but now Yuuri is sopping wet, caked in fire extinguisher emissions and she can't see a damn thing.

Cough, choke, etc. Just give her a minute, she can't even see you to yell at you, Lin. ]

[ Yuuri's a wee bit flustered, as you might imagine. She's eyeing the book like it might just burst into flames all over again. ]

It was just magic. I was just trying to find something about Fissure magic, and–

[ She gestures helplessly at the ex-book. ]

[ Ah, this girl is one of the new arrivals, isn't it? Yuuri does her best to crack a polite smile but it's very visibly strained. It's been a very trying day, thus far. ]

It could be worse. [ which is to say, no, everything is not alright. ] I'm not in the way, am I? I'll be out of your hair soon enough if I am.

[ Yuuri's still sort of away with the fairies when Mai approaches. It's not until she speaks that Yuuri seems to come back down with a bump and she blinks at Mai, visibly puzzled, before she speaks. ]

Um, camping? I'm sorry, I don't...

[ She's not following. ]

No, I know! It– [ cough, cough, in stereo. what a pair they're making. ] It was– me? I think?!

[ She sounds extremely frazzled and the frantic way she's scraping at the pan to extract the charred remains of her breakfast from it isn't helping the image any. ]

[So Heart's pretty stoked. It took a bit to carefully wash the jacket he found, since he didn't want to damage it, and finally, it's clean and dry. It's nothing like his usual coat, but... Well, you make do. It's still a jacket and he was starting to feel weird not wearing anything over his shirt.

[Damn, the kid's freaked out. Not that Sonja blames her; fire's a startling kind of thing to have happen when you're not expecting it. When you're still at the point in your esoteric studies where you don't expect it as a matter of course, anyway; Sonja herself is curious but not particularly troubled by the brief fire.

She moves to put herself between Yuuri and the burned book, and, carefully, lays a hand lightly on the girl's shoulder. It's meant as a comforting gesture; she's ready to back off if Yuuri startles much at the contact.] Not to worry, you've put it out. You're not hurt, are you?

[Her eyes still look a little glazed over, darn sickness.]

[ She says this a little too quick to really be believable and then apparently gives up on the pan. Into the trash the whole thing goes. ]

I just... Church, has he taught you how to use fire yet?

'Taught' is a strong word. An attempt has been made. I can kinda get it going? And sometimes there's just a lot of accidental heat.

[Currently, Talon is doubled over and having a coughing fit in the hallway. He just wanted to get his damn clothes from the dryer, but instead he rounded the corner of the door frame just in time to get blasted in the face with hot smoke. This wouldn't be a problem if he was wearing all his gear and his mask, but as is he's just wearing a sleeveless croptop (and a half binder underneath) with a pattern of wide, staring eyes sewn into it, and a pair of blue jeans.]

[The memories flood in, of heat and screaming, of the smell of burning and the pain - god the pain.]

[His breathing quickens, which only exaggerates the coughing, and his binder makes things ten times worse. And then there's the matter of him stumbling through the door into the kitchen, still basically dying but also wild-eyed and clearly ready to haul anyone injured out the door.]

[Undyne looks over from the manga section to see actual flames in the library, and as enthusiastic as she is about danger even she knows that's a bad idea, and she reflexively summons a small ball of water magic in case the fire spreads. Fortunately, it doesn't appear to be necessary.]
