DUNGEON LOG: KEYSTONE REEF
Expedition day dawns, as usual, with an android mass text -
Okay, so, this time we're aiming to go out and stabilize the Fissure in the reef you can see up a little to the north of here. The waters are usually pretty calm this time of year, so if you can swim instead of needing to take a boat, that'd be a great help. We only have a few of them.
Also, I know that last time was a mess, so I'm just gonna say this: If you need to get out for any reason, just send us a message and a picture of your location. We'll get a drone out to you as soon as we can and bring you home. No questions asked.
( ﾟ▽ﾟ)/ Stay safe out there! When you're ready to go, meet us down at the beach. The rocky, sparkly one, not the sandy one.
Unlike previous expeditions, this time there's no rooftop sendoff - instead, as Charm noted, the tables are set up on Glitterstone beach, along with a series of boats pulled up on the sand. Two rowboats that could maybe sit six people but probably better suited for four, a trio of inflatable rafts (with motors attached to the back, all mismatched) of about the same size, a two-person dinghy and a long canoe that could hold two or three.
Besides the little fleet, there's also the usual bagged lunches (in gallon ziplocs this time, and other such watertight containers), and every boat is equipped with a large number of those chepa dollar-store water bottles, all with their airtight store seals. There's also a selection of life vests and other floatation thingies in a box next to the table. Strange hovers over the setup, checking watertightness of a handful of first aid kits with a spritzer and a bucket to submerge things in. They give a little wave to anyone passing by headed to the boats.
For those who opt instead to swim, everything seems perfectly normal until you reach the border of the Fissure... When, very suddenly, it isn't.

I'll be heading off with the boyfriends, but we might go our separate ways to explore. Out of the three of us, I've got the strongest healing, but they don't exactly need me for that.
[ She might be able to note how something in his expression dims after the words "don't exactly need me." Something almost sad flickers in his eyes, but he's very quickly and firmly snatching back on this. It's not even a super obvious moment. If anything, it's most possible to catch the surprise lurking in there, within all those other pesky emotions.
He gives her a reassuring smile. ]
I'll be keeping Vishnu equipped for most of my time down there. One of their inherit skills is reflecting physical attacks. And they have Mediarahan, which is a spell that recovers all HP.

... then again, the very idea of Yuki with powers like that is sort of inherently terrifying, so let's go ahead and put a pin in that for now.
But regardless, Team Mom's on the case. She knows what an upset boy looks like when she sees it, even if it's only there for a second. Maybe she shouldn't say anything – maybe it's not her business – but it doesn't seem right to just leave it alone. ]
I see. I'm glad you're all such a good team. I'm sure they'll be glad to have you along.
[ Not that she can really do much to help when she doesn't know the situation, though. But her heart's in the right place, at least. ]

Right...
[ After a pause, he glances in the direction he last remembers seeing Goro - he openly announced his... status, so to speak. No longer human, having died in that game... So many people here can understand what he's been through, while Akira only knows what it's like to have been left behind. Then there's Kurama, and--...
... Well, needless to say, the three of them still have a long way to go. Akira fully believes they're capable of so much, and they've overcome a hell of a lot already. They really are a good team. His smile turns fond, even if there's a sadness lurking in his gaze. ]
Guess... you could say it has to do with something I'm working on...
[ He doesn't know why she feels so easy to talk to, but maybe it's something to do with how she reminds him a lot of Chariot du Nord... He swallows back the very small ache and directs his smile at her. ]
I'm really lucky to have them, though... So I try to focus on that.

I know what you mean. I've been a little all over the place since we got here, but I'm lucky – Junpei found me almost as soon as we arrived, so I haven't been alone for a second. Sometimes I think that's probably all that's keeping me sane.
[ And, for some reason, it's talking about Junpei to Akira, talking about him as a stranger Akira might not have met... again comes that feeling of horrible displacement, that strange cousin to the uncanny valley that is talking to a stranger with a friend's face and name. ]

[ Junpei's... a good man who reminds him a little of Ryuji, though; he's bittersweet to be around, but that doesn't take away from how he does respect him. ]
... With Goro and Kurama, it's...
[ ... is he really going to give this a try? Guess he can't help that there's that something about her that tugs at him - assuring him that she's safe to open up to. ]
Guess... after what we went through in the mall, the thought of even my healing spells being useless around the two most important people to me, it-
