Successfully taking him out can't be done by people who only exist in the world of the living. You have to gain new abilities after undergoing some difficult challenges... Those are done by participating in what's known as the Reaper's Game.

I won the game - we all did... So now it's a matter of actually taking on the new roles, in some of our cases. To do that, in my case, I have to give up the ability to age.
